First up 11 random facts about me!

  1. I have a bit of an addiction to nail varnish.  I have a big box where I store them and there's about 55 bottles in there.  My favourite colours are shocking pink, blue and black and I rarely go a day without wearing nail varnish.
  2. I recently discovered I love pomegranates - yum :)
  3. I am self employed and my business celebrates it's 1 year anniversary this Friday \o/ After years of working in mental health within the voluntary sector I took voluntary redundancy just over a year ago and set my own business up delivering life skills training to adults with mental health issues.  I do mostly individual work but also some group work and love it.  I could still do with building my client load up a little more but I am finding it so satisfying and rewarding.
  4. My first pin up was Dr Teeth from the Muppet Show.  I now own my very own Dr Teeth and he currently sits on the radiator in our living room.
  5. I am a pescetarian and haven't eaten meat since I was about 14.
  6. My favourite type of food is Mexican.
  7. I'm attempting to write my first book - I'm about a third of the way through the first draft so far so still a fair bit to do.
  8. I cut my own hair and have done for years.  Initially it was a necessity due to anxiety but I now really enjoy doing it.
  9. I love animals and my favourites are cats, bats, hedgehogs, seahorses and foxes.
  10. My favourite bands are Placebo, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Nine Inch Nails, Lettie, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Depeche Mode.  According to my Lastfm profile I listen to twice as much Placebo as any other band.
  11. I don't like beaches and find the sea really scary and depressing.
Now onto the questions:

1.  When and why did you start blogging?
My first blog was over at blogspot and I started this in 2009.  A few years later I bought my own domain name and moved my blog over to here.  I started it when I reduced my hours at my job and I wanted to use it initially to keep a record of the things I've done, places I've visited and things I've made.  I also wanted to make a more conscious effort to be greener and less of a consumer and thought that through sharing some of my creations I would keep myself motivated.

2. With MP3s and internet streaming, do you still by CDs and DVDs?
I very rarely buy CDs now and the only ones I buy are local artists.  I haven't bought a DVD in years and we are finally in the process of clearing out the DVDs and selling them.  I prefer the digital medium to CDs and DVDs as it saves space and is much more convenient.  I love that I can carry most of my favourite music around with me on my ipod and it weighs next to nothing.

3. How would you describe your style of dress?
Style wise I tend to think of myself as a lazy goth.  When I go out then I make more of an effort with make up but for the most part I like comfy clothes like t-shirts and long skirts or jeans.  I love jewellery though and feel naked without it.  I have a massive collection of rings, earrings, necklaces, bangles and bracelets.  I wear bangles less these days as I have a tic and when it's bad my bangles make quite a racket so don't wear them so much.

4. What religion or philosophy do you ascribe to?
I am a humanist so don't believe in a god or religious set of beliefs.  I believe in people and human kindness and showing compassion and empathy for those who share our planet.

5. What are your favourite TV shows on air right now?
We don't have a TV but we have a Netflix account and we are completely addicted to Grimm.  It's the perfect blend of my two favourite types of TV programme, crime series and fantasy.

6.  What other hobbies do you participate in other than blogging?
I love creative hobbies and I paint, make jewellery, crochet, sew and like needle felting.  I also love computer games, especially wazhack, the sims and puzzle games.

7. If you participate in the arts, which ones to you participate in? Are you a hobbyist or a professional.
I wouldn't identify with either description.  I've always created and, painting especially feels like more of a primal need than a hobby or profession.  I do it to get thoughts out of my head and it helps to calm me when I'm stressed.  I also think words can feel very limiting when used to express emotions but art feels much more freeing.

8. If a movie was made of your life, which actress would play you?
Me and a work colleague used to love imagining this and would spend ages trying to come up with casting choices for all of our work colleagues.  I think I'd love Helena Bonham Carter to play me.

9. Chose one: Coffee or tea?
Coffee but not instant coffee.  It's probably my only real vice but I must have real coffee and at least one cup a day or I get the most horrendous headache.

10. What colours have you dyed your hair?
I've had my my hair every shade of red, from ginger to cherry red and burgandy.  I've also had a streak in the front which I've had purple, pink and blue.  I've tried navy blue years ago but it didn't take to my hair that well.  It's black at the moment and has been for the last couple of years.  I'd like to try blue again as I think hair dyes have improved a lot since I last tried it and it may last longer than before.  When I finally get too much grey/white in my hair then I'd like to dye it bubblegum or shocking pink.

11. Introvert, extrovert or ambivert?
I've not heard of an ambivert before but I'd probably say I was an introvert.  I love people but social activities wear me out. My ideal Friday night is either a bit of netflix, computer games, a good book and a nice long soak in the bath.
