Wire and Felt

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, In : Art
I've not done a blog post for quite a few weeks as I've been quite busy work-wise and have been feeling really creative.  I've been playing around with a few different mediums; I've made a few new items for both shops, been needle felting and experimenting with making cold porcelain (an easy to make air drying clay) and I've made a little sculpture of a blue woman.  I've also had a commission to make a piece of jewellery for someone and have been working on this too.

Here's the new items I've ...

Makings

Posted by Kat C on Monday, November 30, 2015, In : Jewellery
I've brought myself some fab new jewellery making glue so that I can now make rings and stud earrings and things like that.  It's great :)  I've already made myself a bat ring and it's standing up well so I've made some new items for my shop, including another ring and some cool spider earrings.

First up, these razor blade and flower earrings;

A floury cross ring;

Spider stud earrings;

Bat stud earrings :)

And this glow-in-the-dark bat brooch, which was a bit of silliness and made for me ^v^

I have...

Inspiration

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, August 30, 2015, In : Fashion
I really want to make some new items for my shops but I'm having a tough job getting inspired.  I thought I'd have a play on polyvore and see what cool stuff I can find.  That usually helps.  Here's what I found:

I really want to make some non jewellery items and make some more accessories, maybe some hair accessories and items like hats, scarves and arm warmers. I also love the laced cuff and would like to make a laced mug cosy.  I've got some cool pleather with skulls on that would be cool. ...

Spring Cleaning

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, April 12, 2015, In : Organising
I've been having a bit of a tidy of my craft supplies and I'm rather pleased with myself as I've been brave and done a cull of my beads and charms.  I've managed to prune out 4 bags worth of beads, buttons and charms.  I figured the beads I don't plan on using are just cluttering up my supplies and it was making it hard to see what nice beads I had.  As most of my woodle doodle dandy designs jewellery is made from natural materials I've kept the wooden, glass, metal, ceramic and gemstone bead...

Ideas and Inspiration

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, April 4, 2015, In : Crafting
I've hit a bit of a creative block recently so have been trying to get inspired.  I have an assessment coming up with Atos, which I'm really anxious about.  It was meant to be next Thursday but, in keeping with the whole 14 month cock up from the DWP, Atos are also dicking me around and have moved the assessment to the 22nd now.  I can't even begin to put into words how unbelievably pissed off I am so I'm trying to vent some of that frustration into creative hobbies.

The only problem is that...

New Painting and Jewellery

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, February 22, 2015, In : Art
I haven't been feeling very creative the last few weeks but I sort of made myself do something as I know it's good for my head.  I think it paid off :)  I made some new jewellery for my A Little Bit Goth shop.  I made this cute bat necklace, which I'm really pleased with, and some ankh earrings.

I've also been painting and painted this new pic.  It's inspired by a poem by Stevie Smith, 'Not Waving but Drowning'.  It's a pretty dark poem and about her struggles with depression.  It's one of my ...

I've been feeling really inspired recently so have been crafting and painting loads.  I've made a few new items for my shop and a few things for me.

Here's what I made for myself.  I love Labradorite and had some Labradorite beads in my supplies and thought I'd make something for me with them.  I've made these bat earrings using the Labradorite beads plus some crystals so they really catch the light.

I've also been experimenting with wire and made myself this labradorite, amethyst and rose qu...

A Little Bit Goth

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, April 20, 2014, In : Crafting
Well it's been a busy week.  I've been busy painting and making jewellery.  Earlier in the year I set myself up a new Etsy shop called A Little Bit Goth, so I've been making new items for that shop as well as Woodle Doodle Dandy Designs.  So far I've already made 2 sales and I'm feeling really inspired at the moment, so that's really good. You can also find my new shop on here too.

I've also been working on a new painting.  I'm still mainly blocking in the colours at the mo but will get some p...

Recent Creations

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, October 5, 2013, In : Crafting
I've been feeling a little rough this last few days so wasn't sure what to write about.  I decided I'd share a few of my recent creations.  These have all been for craft swaps on Cut Out & Keep.

I've been taking part in the birthdaygrams swap this year.  Birthdaygrams are a year-long swap between a closed group where everyone shares their birthday with the person running the swap.  Then, about a month before each persons birthday she sends out a reminder and everyone creates something small ...

New Creations

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, In : Jewellery
Having a newly tidied craft desk has really inspired me and I've been making loads of bits and bobs.  I've been using the sewing machine \o/ and have made myself 4 sleepsuits for the summer - two with full length legs and 2 with shorts.   I'm proud to say they were made entirely from scratch and from my own pattern :)  The 2 with full length legs have elasticated waists too so I'm really chuffed with myself.  I made them from an old bedsheet and a duvet I picked up second hand.  I'll get post...

What I made for the Geek Swap

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, May 12, 2013, In : Crafting
Its been a busy few days due to my day job being a bit hectic.  I therefore meant to post these pics earlier but nevermind.

Here's what I made for Lisa for the Geeky Swap.

What I sent for the Geek Swap

It was a relatively small swap with us just needing to make our partners 3 items.  I chose to make a Professor Layton lavender pillow, a yoda keyring and a Sherlock Holmes gadget case.  I also sent some Thorntons toffees as I wasn't sure if they had them in the US.  I'm especially pleased with how the Sherlock Holmes pic ca...

Latest Charity Shop Finds

Posted by Kat C on Thursday, April 12, 2012, In : outandabout
I've been charity shop shopping recently and I'm pretty pleased with my recent purchases.  I normally forget to share them but this time I actually remembered to take some pics, so I'm going to do this while I remember.

First up is this cool necklace I picked up from my local Grove House Hospice shop.  I loved the square beads and was thinking of taking it apart for beads and findings but, have since decided to keep it for me.  I so rarely do this - normally my first instinct is 'BEADS! - Mus...

My Crafting Space

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, In : Organising
Last month one of the best neighbours we've had moved back home to Japan.  We miss her loads but we're still in touch and we have loads of bits from her flat which she gave us, so we have plenty of things to remind us of her.  One of these is her old jewellery making desk.  She made absolutely beautiful jewellery, what I'd call 'proper' jewellery making as she created her jewellery completely from scratch, drawing out the designs and creating them using precious metals like gold and silver an...

S is for Springtime & Sale \o/

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, March 4, 2012, In : Jewellery
To celebrate the warmer weather (although it snowed today!) and all the spring flowers coming up, I thought I'd hold my first ever sale :)  Rather than just select certain things to put on sale, I've decided to slash the prices of everything by 20%. Come and have a nose around, you can find my shop here.

I've had horrendously busy month so far and I've been feeling a bit meh and tired :(  On the plus side though, I have been making loads more jewellery and some goodies for an upcoming giveaway I have planned for next week \o/

First, I'll show you what I've been making.  I've already been playing around with the beads and charms I mentioned in my last post and here's what I've used them for.

I made these pretty blue earrings from one of the bracelets I picked up a couple of weeks earlier.  I was...

Lots of Makery

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, January 15, 2012, In : Jewellery
I've had a busy couple of weeks creating and picking up new tools and beads.  Last weekend I had a wonder down to Hatfield Rd in St Albans, where there are lots of charity shops and a brilliant Vintage Emporium.  I picked up some excellent bargains including a book on creating with polymer clay, some old jewellery with some very pretty beads and charms and some really cool wool.  I also met my boyfriend in the Vintage Emporium and had a spot of afternoon tea.  We had warmed bread pudding with...

Christmas Craft Fair

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, November 27, 2011, In : Jewellery
Yesterday was the day of the Creative Arts Christmas Craft Fair at Verulam School in St Albans.  It was my first ever Craft Fair so the day was an experience.  Unfortunately I didn't sell very much stock but I still feel I learnt a lot from the day.  Also, from speaking with other stall holders, no one was selling much.  On the plus side though, I had lots of positive feedback and I learnt some things about selling in person.  I think I need to be more confident about my stock and ready to ma...

Final Bit & Bobs Before Craft Fair

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, In : Jewellery
I've been having a final splurge of creating before the Craft Fair Saturday.  I've made a couple more pairs of earrings and made a second rack for my earrings to be displayed on.  If any of you are in the St Albans area this Saturday (26th November 2011) between 11am - 3pm, Woodle Doodle Dandy Designs will be at the Creative Arts Christmas Craft Fair at Verulam School in St Albans.

Here's the flyer the School have sent advertising the event :)  Wish me luck.  Its my first ever Craft Fair so ...

I'm On A Roll!

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, In : Jewellery
I've been making jewellery like its going out of fashion this last couple of weeks :)  Its been great!  I've also been sorting out the last bits and bobs before the Craft Fair on the 26th.  I've made myself earring stands, got myself a nice mirror, some chocs to entice potential customers :), a Christmas card stand to hold my business cards and a lovely jewellery stand that I got from my sister for my birthday.  I've even had a go at laying out my jewellery and I've got loads.  I've got way m...

All Go!

Posted by Kat C on Thursday, November 10, 2011, In : Jewellery
Its been a busy few days at Woodle Doodle Dandy Towers :)  I've made my first sales from my new site \o/ and I've been making more earrings.  I'm guessing earrings will be my biggest sellers at the craft fair but I know I need to get down to making some more necklaces and bracelets too.

I'm also really chuffed.  My new business cards from Moo turned up at the weekend.  I absolutely love them and have already given a few out.  I also got my new order of elasticated thread and jump rings from ...

Feeling Creative \o/

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, October 30, 2011, In : Jewellery
After all the goings on on Folksy its been a relief to get back to making jewellery again.  I've been going through the stash I got from Oxfam earlier in the month and taking the broken jewellery apart and sorting out what findings I can salvage.  So far I have managed to get some really nice copper jump rings and loads of pretty beads and spacers.  Here's what I got in the jar.

It only cost £4.99 so I was chuffed to bits :)  I've so sorted a lot of the beads and made a pair of earrings.  I u...
