Cats, Crafts & Saving Cash

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, November 22, 2014, In : cats
Well it's been a bit of a busy few months.  I'm still working on being largely self employed working as a Life Skills Coach and although it's tough going I still love it and don't regret taking voluntary redundancy.  I think if I'd stayed I'd have been so stressed and that wouldn't have done my mental health much good.  I'm still getting some benefits plus I'm doing some casual hours for the NHS on their mental health Service User Council. It's challenging as I'm sitting in meetings with top ...

Living Crafts

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, May 10, 2014, In : Out & About
I had a great day yesterday helping my bf out with his stall at Living Crafts at Hatfield House.  I've never been to the event before but it was a really enjoyable day out.  It was nice that it was so close as well.  Although I lived in Hatfield while I was at uni I never visited Hatfield House so it was cool to see some of the grounds.  It looks enormous though so maybe I'll have to go back and have a proper visit.

Here's one of the pics of Pat on his stall :)

I also got to have a good look r...

Art in Action

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, July 21, 2013, In : Out & About
Yesterday we took a trip out to Oxfordshire to the four day arts and crafts event called Art in Action.  It was an amazing day and the weather was glorious.  There was every kind of art/craft you could imagine including music, ceramics, glass blowing, sculpture, jewellery making, decoupage, paintings, marbling and so much more.

I especially loved the work by sculpture, Rachel Ducker.  She did the most amazing figures made from wire and they made me think of wickerwork or something similar.  ...

New Creations

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, In : Jewellery
Having a newly tidied craft desk has really inspired me and I've been making loads of bits and bobs.  I've been using the sewing machine \o/ and have made myself 4 sleepsuits for the summer - two with full length legs and 2 with shorts.   I'm proud to say they were made entirely from scratch and from my own pattern :)  The 2 with full length legs have elasticated waists too so I'm really chuffed with myself.  I made them from an old bedsheet and a duvet I picked up second hand.  I'll get post...

My Newly Organised Crafting Area

Posted by Kat C on Monday, June 10, 2013, In : Organising
This weekend I got busy sorting out my crafting materials so that they were in less of a muddle.  I'm also doing a private destash swap with Mary from Cut Out & Keep so that also acted as a good motivation :)

Here's how it's looking now.

Here's the whole area with my desk and shelves.

My freshly tidied crafting corner :)

Here's a close up of my desk with my tubs of sewing stuff, ribbon, threads, etc

Craft Fairs

Posted by Kat C on Monday, October 29, 2012, In : Out & About
I've been a dreadful blogger of late so my recent posts have been a bit sporadic.  I've been really meh recently and really uninspired.  I just seem to have it a creative block that I can't shift.

I did the Craft fair a couple of weeks ago, but that didn't go as well as I'd hoped.  I had a bit of a think and think there are a few factors at work.  The layout of the venue was a little odd.  Rather than arrange people round the outside of the hall facing out, maybe with a few stalls in the mid...

Second Hand Sunday

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, June 24, 2012, In : Charity Shops
I was working over in Watford yesterday morning so I got to have a good mooch around the charity shops over in there for a change.  There's a brilliant selection and I can usually find some bargains.  Yesterday I found loads of goodies over at the New Hope Trust Charity shop.  Its a local homeless charity and the shop is really big and great for finding second hand craft materials.  Here's what I found yesterday.

Now, I know this as a Knitting Nancy. It made me smile when I spotted it as I ha...

My Crafting Space

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, In : Organising
Last month one of the best neighbours we've had moved back home to Japan.  We miss her loads but we're still in touch and we have loads of bits from her flat which she gave us, so we have plenty of things to remind us of her.  One of these is her old jewellery making desk.  She made absolutely beautiful jewellery, what I'd call 'proper' jewellery making as she created her jewellery completely from scratch, drawing out the designs and creating them using precious metals like gold and silver an...

M is for March :)

Posted by Kat C on Friday, March 2, 2012, In : Gardening
Its been really lovely weather and it feels like Spring at last \o/  I've been down the plot and my onions are coming along nicely and the crocuses are already starting to flower.  The dafs aren't far off either so its going to look lovely in a few weeks time.  We've also started digging in the manure we ordered so I'm already starting to make plans for what to grow.

I'd defintely like to get some more of the potatoes we grew last year.  They were really fluffy and grew to a decent size with...

Christmas Craft Fair

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, November 27, 2011, In : Jewellery
Yesterday was the day of the Creative Arts Christmas Craft Fair at Verulam School in St Albans.  It was my first ever Craft Fair so the day was an experience.  Unfortunately I didn't sell very much stock but I still feel I learnt a lot from the day.  Also, from speaking with other stall holders, no one was selling much.  On the plus side though, I had lots of positive feedback and I learnt some things about selling in person.  I think I need to be more confident about my stock and ready to ma...

Final Bit & Bobs Before Craft Fair

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, In : Jewellery
I've been having a final splurge of creating before the Craft Fair Saturday.  I've made a couple more pairs of earrings and made a second rack for my earrings to be displayed on.  If any of you are in the St Albans area this Saturday (26th November 2011) between 11am - 3pm, Woodle Doodle Dandy Designs will be at the Creative Arts Christmas Craft Fair at Verulam School in St Albans.

Here's the flyer the School have sent advertising the event :)  Wish me luck.  Its my first ever Craft Fair so ...

I'm On A Roll!

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, In : Jewellery
I've been making jewellery like its going out of fashion this last couple of weeks :)  Its been great!  I've also been sorting out the last bits and bobs before the Craft Fair on the 26th.  I've made myself earring stands, got myself a nice mirror, some chocs to entice potential customers :), a Christmas card stand to hold my business cards and a lovely jewellery stand that I got from my sister for my birthday.  I've even had a go at laying out my jewellery and I've got loads.  I've got way m...

All Go!

Posted by Kat C on Thursday, November 10, 2011, In : Jewellery
Its been a busy few days at Woodle Doodle Dandy Towers :)  I've made my first sales from my new site \o/ and I've been making more earrings.  I'm guessing earrings will be my biggest sellers at the craft fair but I know I need to get down to making some more necklaces and bracelets too.

I'm also really chuffed.  My new business cards from Moo turned up at the weekend.  I absolutely love them and have already given a few out.  I also got my new order of elasticated thread and jump rings from ...

More Makery :)

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, In : Jewellery
I've been slowly working through my stash of broken jewellery and disassembling them.  I've also been having a brutal look at some of my older jewellery that I made.  I've had a bit of a cull and taken those pieces apart too.  I'm quite chuffed with the amount of jump rings I've salvaged.  It may sound a bit odd but I find the whole process of taking dead jewellery to pieces and sorting the parts really relaxing.  Also by sorting them by colour I've got inspired by some nice colour combinatio...

Feeling Creative \o/

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, October 30, 2011, In : Jewellery
After all the goings on on Folksy its been a relief to get back to making jewellery again.  I've been going through the stash I got from Oxfam earlier in the month and taking the broken jewellery apart and sorting out what findings I can salvage.  So far I have managed to get some really nice copper jump rings and loads of pretty beads and spacers.  Here's what I got in the jar.

It only cost £4.99 so I was chuffed to bits :)  I've so sorted a lot of the beads and made a pair of earrings.  I u...

Busy, busy, busy...

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, October 26, 2011,
I've been busy beavering away on my shiny new website and listing stock - check the tabs for a peak of all the goodies I've listed so far :).  I have also made the decision to close my shop on Folksy as my heart just hasn't been in it since they made all the changes to their definition of handmade.  Also, the thought of making a sale and giving even a tiny part to them as commission was also leaving a nasty taste in my mouth.

I'm loving the freedom of having my own site.  It took me a few da...
