Wire and Felt

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, In : Art
I've not done a blog post for quite a few weeks as I've been quite busy work-wise and have been feeling really creative.  I've been playing around with a few different mediums; I've made a few new items for both shops, been needle felting and experimenting with making cold porcelain (an easy to make air drying clay) and I've made a little sculpture of a blue woman.  I've also had a commission to make a piece of jewellery for someone and have been working on this too.

Here's the new items I've ...

Bright Colours

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, December 19, 2015, In : Art
I was having a bit of play around last night and made this picture.  It's done with a variety of materials including inks, acrylic, glitter, salt and marker pens.

Its much brighter than my usual art but I had fun making a bit of a mess and playing around with this.  I especially like how the salt has reacted with the water and inks to create an interesting spotty pattern in the background.

Art Journal

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, September 27, 2015, In : Art
I've been using a art journal prompt to give me some new ideas and so far I've been really enjoying it.  I've been keeping it since the beginning of the month and although I'm not happy with everything I'm working hard to just create and not edit my ideas.  I know that the inner perfectionist can be my biggest enemy when it comes to creating something new and I don't play around with ideas and have fun.  Usually if I like something I'll work like mad and finish it or I'll run out of steam and...

Work in Progress

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, In : Art
I've had a few months of feeling a bit uninspired but after a bit of frustration I seem to have felt in the mood to paint again.  This isn't finished yet but I thought it might be nice to share some progress photos.  I normally do this on instagram and I find it interesting seeing how a painting evolves as I work on it.

I just need to do a last bit of work around the eye and with the hair but so far I'm really pleased with how it's looking.  Hopefully it should be finished in the next few ...

New Painting and Jewellery

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, February 22, 2015, In : Art
I haven't been feeling very creative the last few weeks but I sort of made myself do something as I know it's good for my head.  I think it paid off :)  I made some new jewellery for my A Little Bit Goth shop.  I made this cute bat necklace, which I'm really pleased with, and some ankh earrings.

I've also been painting and painted this new pic.  It's inspired by a poem by Stevie Smith, 'Not Waving but Drowning'.  It's a pretty dark poem and about her struggles with depression.  It's one of my ...

Recent Paintings

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, January 24, 2015, In : Art
For some reason the gremlins in my camera cable seem to have gone for now so I've been able to get some better quality pics of some of my recent creations.

Here's a couple I've shared already but in a lower quality format.  The first was done in pens and watercolour paints with some chalk to create the mist.

And this one was done in pens, watercolour pencils and glitter.  It kind of evolved while I was watching Frankenweenie so I didn't put much thought into the materials I was using.  This me...

Bat Fit 2015 plus Art

Posted by Kat C on Friday, January 2, 2015, In : Health
As of yesterday Bat Fit has kicked off for another year.  The theme for this year is nourishment which for me means getting a tasty, balanced diet with more fruit and veg and more cooking from scratch rather than relying on processed, quick foods.  Also for me that will mean less fatty snacks and less sugary sweets.  These have crept into my diet over the Christmas break so I need to start to curb these a little before they become regular features of my diet.  A little now and again is ...

Christmas

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, December 28, 2014, In : Out & About
I had a lovely chilled out Christmas with Pat and the two cats we are cat sitting.  I got some amazing pressies including some lovely art supplies.  When I opened the paints last night it was like opening a box of posh chocolates.  There were so many beautiful colours and they were all in layers like a chocolate box :)  We had a very tasty vegi lunch of roast winter veg (potatoes, carrots, parsnips, mushrooms and sweet potatoes) with Yorkshire puddings and gravy.  It was yummy and had tons of...

Winter Solstice

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, In : Crafting
This Winter Solstice me, Pat and a couple of friends decided to spend the day at Pat's studio doing a raku firing.  I had made some small tiles that were meant to be Christmas decorations that I wanted to send out in place of cards this year.  Unfortunately due to crappy weather on the days that we've been both free we weren't able to do the glazing and firing till Sunday so they were a bit late to send out.  I'm still really chuffed with how they came out and will send them out to friends an...

Art

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, December 13, 2014, In : Art
Well finances continue to be very tight at present so if I want something I'm making it where possible.  I've made all of my family Christmas presents this year so I hope they like them.  I've also been drawing and painting more.  I was watching Tim Burtons Frankenweiner the other week and came up with this very Tim Burton-esk tree pic.  This one is done in a mix of mediums, fine nibbed pens, watercolour pencils. glitter and black sharpie.  It was a bit of a doodle but I'm really pleased with...

What Makes My Heart Sing....

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, In : Misc

I've been feeling really crappy and uninspired so it's quite handy that I'm taking part in a few blog challenges.  Todays has come from Professor Z (see link above or on my slide bar) and the idea is to write a post about 'what makes your heart sing'.  At present it's a bit of a struggle as I still don't know the outcome of the consultation at work, but I feel happy with the decisions I have made so I just need to wait and see what happens next.

Obviously my boyfriend creates a fair bit of he...

Art in Action

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, July 21, 2013, In : Out & About
Yesterday we took a trip out to Oxfordshire to the four day arts and crafts event called Art in Action.  It was an amazing day and the weather was glorious.  There was every kind of art/craft you could imagine including music, ceramics, glass blowing, sculpture, jewellery making, decoupage, paintings, marbling and so much more.

I especially loved the work by sculpture, Rachel Ducker.  She did the most amazing figures made from wire and they made me think of wickerwork or something similar.  ...

A Sneak Peak at What I'm Working On

Posted by Kat C on Thursday, April 18, 2013, In : Jewellery
I've been enjoying creating the last few weeks and have really enjoyed taking part in swaps again.  I've also been making some stuff for my shop and myself.  I've been working on a new painting.  I haven't worked out a title for it and its probably sums up how I've been feeling the last few months.  It's not exactly a self portrait but it has similarities with me.  Its painted in acrylics and is on canvas board, which I like working on.

I've also been making some jewellery for my shop.  Here's...

I Haz a Proud :)

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, December 11, 2011, In : Art
Just a little post to share a bit of happy news.  Yesterday I went with my boyfriend to the opening for Herts Open Exhibition at St Albans Museum.  We were at the opening as my boyfriend had entered 3 pieces of ceramic art and all 3 were in the exhibition.

After everyone has had a good wander round and look at all the work there is the awards part of the event.  Much to my delight my boyfriends name was read out as the winner of the St Albans Museums and Galleries Award \o/  He was chuffed t...

Final Bit & Bobs Before Craft Fair

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, In : Jewellery
I've been having a final splurge of creating before the Craft Fair Saturday.  I've made a couple more pairs of earrings and made a second rack for my earrings to be displayed on.  If any of you are in the St Albans area this Saturday (26th November 2011) between 11am - 3pm, Woodle Doodle Dandy Designs will be at the Creative Arts Christmas Craft Fair at Verulam School in St Albans.

Here's the flyer the School have sent advertising the event :)  Wish me luck.  Its my first ever Craft Fair so ...
