David Bowie and His Influence on Goth Music

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, January 24, 2016, In : Music
Like many music fans across the globe, I was really saddened by the news that David Bowie had passed away.  Although I didn't own tons of his music, just a couple of best of compilations, his influence can be heard throughout my music collection and the bands I listened to growing up and today.  I think the theatrical approach he took to his to performances and the way he challenged the gender norms, wore make up and was never afraid to experiment made him a great influence on the whole goth ...

Hertfordshires Local Music Scene

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, March 21, 2015, In : Music
We've been really enjoying the monthly live music nights run by Denise over at the Trestle Theatre in St Albans so I thought I would dedicate today’s blog post to sharing a few of the acts that we have really enjoyed over the last year.

First up one of our favourite singer/songwriters, Minnie Birch.  Not only does she have a beautiful voice and write great songs, but she's able to express a sense of vulnerability which makes the stories she telling so relatable and moving.  Here's one of her...

The Most Beautiful Piece of Music

Posted by Kat C on Thursday, February 26, 2015, In : Music

Todays blog post is my blog homework courtesy of The Curious Professor Z.  This month the homework is to blog about the most beautiful piece of music we have ever heard.  A tough one and I racked my brains for a while on this but decided on something classical.  I don't listen to much classical but it's what I play if I'm stressed or need to focus on a tricky task.

My choice is probably a slightly odd one given that I am a humanist and in no way religious.  It's 'Ave Maria' by Schubert an...

Annual Vampire's Day Soiree

Posted by Kat C on Thursday, February 12, 2015, In : Music
Todays blog post takes it's inspiration from Holly over at Hollys Horrorland. The idea is that everyone participating will post a vampire themed blog post on the 14th February.  This is the first year I've participated, I've meant to do it in the past but always end up forgetting as the day gets close.  This year I put it in my calendar.

I thought for my post I would include a mix of all things vampire related.  One of my favourite books ever is Dracula and I've read it twice, once at school a...

^v^ World Goth Day ^v^

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, In : Music
As promised, my special World Goth Day post so I thought I'd share some music from some of my favourite bands.

First up it has to be The Godfather of Goth himself.  I've loved Bauhaus since my teens and saw Peter Murphy live a few years back and he is by far the most entertaining band/musician I have ever seen live.  He was on stage for a good couple of hours, he was very witty and very human and played new stuff, old stuff, Bauhaus stuff and chatted to the audience.  I even got a handshake :)...
