Latest Painting

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, September 22, 2018, In : Art
Just a short post to show my latest painting.  I'm not totally sure what it's about or how it became this, but I like it.  It's just colourful and different to my normal painting, a bit more abstract.

I'm also working on two other paintings, a blue lady and a strange self portrait which is me from the inside of my head outwards.  It's kind of a picture of my inner world and all the things which I like. The first, which is in it's very early stages is kind of related to trauma and trying to man...

Today's Sketch

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, July 29, 2018, In : Art
I've been enjoying the cooler weather today and, for the first time in a few weeks, felt in the mood for some art.  I did this sketch of Mike Patton (singer from Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Lovage, Peeping Tom, Mondo Cane, etc).  He's one of my favourite singers and he's been one of my favourite celeb men since my teens.  I had a poster of him on the side of my wardrobe and love Faith No More.  He's still hot in my eyes, even though we've both aged a bit since the days of having him pinned on m...

My Latest Creations

Posted by Kat C on Monday, July 2, 2018, In : Art
It's been a while (to put it mildly) since I've posted anything here and I recently got talking to someone about my art and my website and thought I should give it a tidy.  Once I started tidying things up I realised I didn't really stop blogging for any particular reason.  I just got out of the habit.  If I can get out of the habit then I can get back in the habit, so here I am.

I thought I'd share some of my latest creations.  I've been having some hormone issues and that's really inspired m...

Wire and Felt

Posted by Kat C on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, In : Art
I've not done a blog post for quite a few weeks as I've been quite busy work-wise and have been feeling really creative.  I've been playing around with a few different mediums; I've made a few new items for both shops, been needle felting and experimenting with making cold porcelain (an easy to make air drying clay) and I've made a little sculpture of a blue woman.  I've also had a commission to make a piece of jewellery for someone and have been working on this too.

Here's the new items I've ...

Bright Colours

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, December 19, 2015, In : Art
I was having a bit of play around last night and made this picture.  It's done with a variety of materials including inks, acrylic, glitter, salt and marker pens.

Its much brighter than my usual art but I had fun making a bit of a mess and playing around with this.  I especially like how the salt has reacted with the water and inks to create an interesting spotty pattern in the background.

Art Journal

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, September 27, 2015, In : Art
I've been using a art journal prompt to give me some new ideas and so far I've been really enjoying it.  I've been keeping it since the beginning of the month and although I'm not happy with everything I'm working hard to just create and not edit my ideas.  I know that the inner perfectionist can be my biggest enemy when it comes to creating something new and I don't play around with ideas and have fun.  Usually if I like something I'll work like mad and finish it or I'll run out of steam and...

Work in Progress

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, In : Art
I've had a few months of feeling a bit uninspired but after a bit of frustration I seem to have felt in the mood to paint again.  This isn't finished yet but I thought it might be nice to share some progress photos.  I normally do this on instagram and I find it interesting seeing how a painting evolves as I work on it.

I just need to do a last bit of work around the eye and with the hair but so far I'm really pleased with how it's looking.  Hopefully it should be finished in the next few ...

New Painting and Jewellery

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, February 22, 2015, In : Art
I haven't been feeling very creative the last few weeks but I sort of made myself do something as I know it's good for my head.  I think it paid off :)  I made some new jewellery for my A Little Bit Goth shop.  I made this cute bat necklace, which I'm really pleased with, and some ankh earrings.

I've also been painting and painted this new pic.  It's inspired by a poem by Stevie Smith, 'Not Waving but Drowning'.  It's a pretty dark poem and about her struggles with depression.  It's one of my ...

Recent Paintings

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, January 24, 2015, In : Art
For some reason the gremlins in my camera cable seem to have gone for now so I've been able to get some better quality pics of some of my recent creations.

Here's a couple I've shared already but in a lower quality format.  The first was done in pens and watercolour paints with some chalk to create the mist.

And this one was done in pens, watercolour pencils and glitter.  It kind of evolved while I was watching Frankenweenie so I didn't put much thought into the materials I was using.  This me...

Well finances continue to be very tight at present so if I want something I'm making it where possible.  I've made all of my family Christmas presents this year so I hope they like them.  I've also been drawing and painting more.  I was watching Tim Burtons Frankenweiner the other week and came up with this very Tim Burton-esk tree pic.  This one is done in a mix of mediums, fine nibbed pens, watercolour pencils. glitter and black sharpie.  It was a bit of a doodle but I'm really pleased with...

Bats, Bats, Bats

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, In : Art
It's no secret that bats are one of my favourite animals, along with cats, but they don't tend to feature much in my artwork.  Just recently that's started to change so I've been sketching lots of bats and I plan to add lots of bats to the new painting I'm working on.

Here's a few of my bats

They're both a little messy as I forgot to use a waterproof pen to do the outlines in so when I added the paint it bled a bit :/

Here's what I'm working on at the moment.  It's still got a lot to do...

I've finished my latest painting last night in record time.  I think this one took just under a week.  I'm really chuffed with how it's come out.  It's acrylic and glitter on canvas and is A3.  I haven't decided what to call it yet, probably something with Dandelions in as they're one of my favourite flowers.

Finally Finished!

Posted by Kat C on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, In : Art
I've been trying to work on as many of my goals for this year.  I'm reading more again and trying to do something creative every day.  This means I've finally finished a couple of paintings.  Here's the first one.

The main bit that needed finishing was the background and tidying up her hair and top.  I'm really pleased with how it's come out and pleased to have something finished.  I've got a terrible habit of starting paintings and then getting distracted and starting something else.  It's ca...

Latest Painting

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, September 14, 2013, In : Art
As promised, pics of my latest painting.  It's not quite finished but I'll probably be finished by the end of today.

I'm really pleased with how its looking.  I'll get some better pics when I've finished it.  Hopefully there will be some sunlight too as I hate using the flash.  I always think you get truer colours in natural light.  I'm off now to try and get some ideas for a new goth swap I'm doing :)

I don't think I've ever left it this long between blog posts.  Its probably getting on for a couple of months, which is ages.  I normally try and post something once a week but just recently I've hit a bit of a brick wall.  I haven't felt at all creative and its left me feeling like I've got nothing to say :/

Anyway, I thought it was time to get back in the saddle again and get posting again.  I've got a Craft Fair coming up in a couple of weeks so I need to try and de-meh myself.  I think par...

Proud Girlfriend :)

Posted by Kat C on Saturday, May 12, 2012, In : Art
Its been a bit of a busy week this week.  My boyfriend has his first exhibition on Wednesday night was the private view.  He was sharing the exhibition with 3 other artists but his work was the only 3D work.  This meant he got to fill all the cabinet space.  Here's a peak at his work on display.

You may notice that there are a few red dots in the top two pics so that means some items have already sold \o/  He's really chuffed and I'm feeling very proud :)

I loved the work of the other artists ...

Painting Again

Posted by Kat C on Friday, April 20, 2012, In : Art
I've always love art and enjoyed painting but just recently I've been wanting to work on a larger scale.  I normally work on small canvases (ACEO sized) or on A5 canvas boards but recently I've been working on something that's probably about A3 (ish).  I'm really enjoying it and I'm really happy with how its coming out.  I just need to do a bit more on the eye that's only half in shot and her hair and then I might leave it there.  Here's how its looking at the mo.

I Haz a Proud :)

Posted by Kat C on Sunday, December 11, 2011, In : Art
Just a little post to share a bit of happy news.  Yesterday I went with my boyfriend to the opening for Herts Open Exhibition at St Albans Museum.  We were at the opening as my boyfriend had entered 3 pieces of ceramic art and all 3 were in the exhibition.

After everyone has had a good wander round and look at all the work there is the awards part of the event.  Much to my delight my boyfriends name was read out as the winner of the St Albans Museums and Galleries Award \o/  He was chuffed t...
