Goth Summer Clothes

May 7, 2016
I have quite mixed feelings when it comes to the summer.  I rationally know that the sunlight is really good for my mood and depression but I find it really hard to find things to wear and feel comfortable.  Part of this is that I'm not particularly comfortable in my skin and would like to drop a couple of dress sizes.  I'm kind of okay with this during the winter months as I can be covered but as the weather warms up I feel really uncomfortable.

I decided to have a look on polyvore and see what inspiration I could find.  Here's what I came up with:

Goth Summer Wardrobe Ideas

I especially love the flat, black shoes in the centre and the purple shades.  I also love all the lace and the lacy bra top is so pretty that I couldn't resist adding it, (even though I'm a long way from feeling comfortable showing that much flesh).  I also love the thought of having a parasol for the hot weather.  I burn very easily so I need to use a high factor sun cream and cover up.

Wire and Felt

April 12, 2016
I've not done a blog post for quite a few weeks as I've been quite busy work-wise and have been feeling really creative.  I've been playing around with a few different mediums; I've made a few new items for both shops, been needle felting and experimenting with making cold porcelain (an easy to make air drying clay) and I've made a little sculpture of a blue woman.  I've also had a commission to make a piece of jewellery for someone and have been working on this too.

Here's the new items I've ...

David Bowie and His Influence on Goth Music

January 24, 2016
Like many music fans across the globe, I was really saddened by the news that David Bowie had passed away.  Although I didn't own tons of his music, just a couple of best of compilations, his influence can be heard throughout my music collection and the bands I listened to growing up and today.  I think the theatrical approach he took to his to performances and the way he challenged the gender norms, wore make up and was never afraid to experiment made him a great influence on the whole goth ...

Happy New Year

January 1, 2016
I don't really get into the whole New Year thing or go out and make a whole load of resolutions.  I prefer setting myself goals on my birthday and tend to stay in or just see friends on New Years Eve.  This year was especially low key but I really loved it.  I'm having a bit of a spring clean and declutter and have made myself a list, room by room, which I have broken down into sections for each area of each room and have been crossing bit's off as I go through the areas ditching things I don...

Bright Colours

December 19, 2015
I was having a bit of play around last night and made this picture.  It's done with a variety of materials including inks, acrylic, glitter, salt and marker pens.

Its much brighter than my usual art but I had fun making a bit of a mess and playing around with this.  I especially like how the salt has reacted with the water and inks to create an interesting spotty pattern in the background.

Makings

November 30, 2015
I've brought myself some fab new jewellery making glue so that I can now make rings and stud earrings and things like that.  It's great :)  I've already made myself a bat ring and it's standing up well so I've made some new items for my shop, including another ring and some cool spider earrings.

First up, these razor blade and flower earrings;

A floury cross ring;

Spider stud earrings;

Bat stud earrings :)

And this glow-in-the-dark bat brooch, which was a bit of silliness and made for me ^v^

I have...

Inspiration and Ideas

November 11, 2015
I've been working on some new items for my shop and getting some inspiration from polyvore.  I've made myself a board of things that I like and it's a bit of a mix of different things, some jewellery, clothes, items for the home and pictures.  I don't think I'll ever tire of stripes and cute animals but I've recently been playing around with skulls and something more stylised like sugar skulls.  I like the idea of stitching some embroidered sugar skulls and making them a feature of something ...

Halloween

November 3, 2015
For the first time in years I went out on Halloween and got dressed up.  It was so much fun and I forgot how much fun dressing up can be.  I decided to go as the Corpse Bride as I love Tim Burton films and I already had a few of the items I needed to get dressed up.  It also occurred to me while I was practising my make up that I'm being one of the blue ladies that I paint in my art.  I've been drawing and painting blue ladies for about 20 years and although they are explicitly self portraits...

Art Journal

September 27, 2015
I've been using a art journal prompt to give me some new ideas and so far I've been really enjoying it.  I've been keeping it since the beginning of the month and although I'm not happy with everything I'm working hard to just create and not edit my ideas.  I know that the inner perfectionist can be my biggest enemy when it comes to creating something new and I don't play around with ideas and have fun.  Usually if I like something I'll work like mad and finish it or I'll run out of steam and...
